Tips from the psychologists. How do you get information from people that don’t want to give you the information. Here’s one effective strategy: If someone is unwilling to share information, present them with a proposed change to a process they are familiar with and have a vested interest in. Outline a plan for how the new process will work. The individual is likely to provide extensive feedback, explaining why your plan won’t work. In doing so, they inadvertently share valuable insights and knowledge. It’s a win-win—your plan (which you may not have intended to implement) gets scrutinised, and you gain critical information that may have otherwise been withheld.
Build trust levels in the organisation which fosters knowledge sharing.
